Gifts / Tuliaiset

It is always a great fun for giving and getting the gifts. Though I usually spend a lot of time for finding a good personal gift to someone. It is not that simple and easy. Not for me. Nowadays everybody seems to have everything so that makes it yet more difficult.

My cousin is an expert what it comes with giving the gifts. She is the one and only person I know who has a whole closet full of gifts and stuff for every occassions. She starts to buy her Christmas gifts already in January. She is a true professional. If I only could get a one tiny little piece of her talent, would I be happy.

Our homecoming is getting closer and it means searching and trying to find something nice for gifts. I gave up before I started. Not that personal but hopefully the handmade bookmarks and necklaces will find a new home.

Lahjojen antaminen ja saaminen on hauskaa. Yksilöllisen ja sopivan lahjan löytäminen tuottaa hankaluuksia, ainakin minulle. Kaikilla on jo kaikkea.

Serkkuni on todellinen ammattilainen mitä tulee lahjoihin. Hän on tuntemistani ihmisistä ainoa, jolla on komerollinen lahjatavaraa. Hän myös aloittaa joululahjojen oston jo tammikuussa. Jos saisin hyppysellisen tuota järjestelmällisyyttä itselleni, olisin todella onnellinen.
Kotiloman lähestyessä tuskan hiki alkaa virrata ja kengät kulua. Tänä vuonna luovutin ennen kuin ehdin edes aloittaa. Ei ehkä niin henkilökohtaista mutta toivottavasti käsintehdyt

kirjanmerkit ja kaulakorut löytävät omiin osoitteisiinsa.

Books/ Kirjat

A life without books would be a nightmare. I love reading and always try to find some time to read. A good book can steal my time from sleeping,which is not a very good thing ( I am a person who needs a good nightsleep). Sometimes I just need to know how things will end and I keep reading and reading...On the other hand some books are so good, I just don't want them finish at all. Usually I read several books at the same time. Right now I am reading these:

Chang Jung, Holliday Jon: Mao, The Unknown Story
Ingemarsson Kajsa: Små citroner gula
Harju Kristiina: Nelikymppinen - elämän huipulla

Ylläolevat kirjat ovat parhaillaan yöpöydällä. Usein luen kirjoja yhtäaikaa, kirjan valinta riippuu aina mielentilasta. Toisista kirjoista tulee melkein ystäviä eikä niitä malttaisi lopettaa millään, toiset taas pitää lukea nopeasti, jotta saa tietää miten kirja päättyy. Todella hyvän kirjan jälkeen tulee melkein vieroitusoireita ja on hankala aloittaa lukemaan uutta kirjaa. Tämä lukemishulluus saa aikaan sen että yöunet saattavat ( ja jäävätkin ) vähiin mikä ei ole hyvästä kunnon yöunien tarvitsijalle.

Finally

Today we need to go back to the school and pick up a report card. The school finished already at last week on Wednesday. Since then it has been a party after a party.On Thursday had we party for the Kindargarten and on Friday the dance show and high honour certifigates were given to children. It's getting too hot to think any kind of school so now it is a good time to escape from the school to the beach.

Koulu loppui jo viime viikolla, sitten alkoi juhlallisuudet. Päiväkodin juhlat torstaina, koulun tanssiryhmän esitys ja stipendien jako perjantaina.Tänään kävimme hakemassa todistuksen, sitä ei voinut saada mukaansa perjantaina joten nyt voimme unohtaa koulun hetkeksi ja palata asiaan syksyllä.


We have a few weeks time to spend here before our family go for a holiday. Before that we are going to spend a lot of time under the sun or sunshade...

Kesäloma täällä tarkoittaa pakoa rannalle. Meillä on muutama viikko aikaa viettää lomaa täällä kunnes lähdemme kesälomille. Nyt helleaallon jyllätessä pako auringonvarjon alle on ehdotonta, auringossa tuntuu sulavan.

I think kids prefer to escape under the water. That means mother doesn't have any relaxing time, neither to be able to read any book at the beach. But both of the kids can swim,though younger one is still practicing.

Lapset eivät rannalla paikoillaan pysy, joten huilitauko varjon alla ei tule kysymykseenkään.

Pakopaikka löytyy veden alta. Tarkoittaen sitä ettei rannalle kannatta mitään hyvää kirjaa ottaa mukaan, koska parin virkkeen jälkeen katse hakeutuu lasten perään ja ajatus katkeaa.

Hyvä puoli on kuitenkin se että molemmat osaavat jo uida, nuorempi tosin vasta muutaman vedon mutta hyvää vauhtia päivä päivältä paremmin.

Embroidery/ Vohvelitöitä

This week I saw in Vasilisa's blog a great book of embroidering to the waffle fabrics. That is something what we did at the school in the seventies. When I started my life as a stay-at-home-mum 5 years ago, I recognized, I might have some time to do volunteer work. Because of children being home with me, I could use some of my crafting time to do something for raising money to disabled childrens school.

Mostly I have done cards for special occasions like birthdays, weddings, etc.. Then I remembered these waffle fabrics. First I made towels for Yule Tide bazaar two years ago. That was a big success and since then I have made every now and then towels for the schools little shop where they have stuff made by children themselves and also some stuff from outside.

Vasilisan blogissa oli tällä viikolla vohvelitöistä pieni juttu. Noita töitä muistan tehneeni seitsemänkymmentä luvulla koulussa. Nämä samat vohvelityöt tulivat takaisin elämääni pari vuotta sitten kun tarvitsin idean mitä tehdä vanhan ajan joulumarkkinoille auttaakseni paikallista kehitysvammaisten koulua keräämään rahaa. Joulumarkkinat olivat menestys. Sen jälkeen olen tehnyt pyyhkeitä myös koulun kauppaan myyntiin. Pääasiassa kaupan tuotteet ovat lasten itsensä valmistamia.

My mother has done "waffle works" in early sixties and her piece of fabric was the idea of everything.

Samoihin aikoihin tyttärenikin innostui neulasta ja langasta. Valitettavasti en löytänyt patalappuja kuvattavaksi. Ylläoleva kuva on äitini tekemä mallikappale, josta kaikki sai alkunsa.

Changes/Muutoksia

I did have this picture yesterday in here. With a help of small fingers it disappeared.That's happens.

English is not my mother language though I decided to write in English. Mainly because of our friends around the world. But with that I totally forgot our family members. So back to basic. I am going to use Finnish together with English. My English is clumsy, so this won't be a masterpiece in language. More or less I'm typing away without thinking any spelling or other fine details.

Olo on kuin yläkuvassa, jonka pieni neitimme piirsi äidistään. Kuva ja teksti katosi mutta uusinnat ovat varmaan sallittuja. Englannin lisäksi blogikieleksi tulee suomi, jotta pienet jutut elämästämme saavuttaisi useamman henkilön,eritoten perheestämme.

Tomorrow is the last school day. Thanking for this school year and hoping a peaceful and relaxing summer for all the teachers. May their summer be filled with beautiful days, great time with family and friends and sand between their toes. See you in September!

Lunch

What is the best lunch ?

Today it's a salad. Some tomatoes,cucumbers,salad,watermelon and feta cheese with olive oil and black peppar. Tomorrow something else.

The Romans

Our little boy will be taking part in " End of Year Production"/ Spring Party on Thursday evening. In the same event KG 2 children will graduate from Kindergarten and it will be a huge show. Everything has been kept very secret and kids have been practising since April. Little by little we have heard whispers about the Romans, Egyptians,Eskimos and Indians. Our little boy is going to be a Roman soldier. He is going to wear a uniform and perform some dancing and singing. I was asked to help the teachers with preparing some shields for the Romans.I'm not an artist at all, but luckily the shields turn out to be quite ok ( I got some practice- 17 shields! ).

Our boy got already his report card from Nursery and he is allowed to continue next year to KG 1. He has done very well, can express himself clearly in English, even says some sentences. English is his second language so I'm more than happy because he is only four-years-old, started Nursery in mid of January. Well done my dear boy!

Visitors

This morning we got visitors, a gang of unknown birds had landed in to our home. They are friendly, not very noisy and what a beautiful colors they have. Children have been asking to have pets of their own , maybe these birds can stay with us.

Welcome

Summer has arrived, finally. The warm weather, sea and sun. Lots of fresh fruits for breakfast, lunch and dinner.That's all we need right now. Children have still a week and half left this schoolterm, unfortunatelly. Meanwhile we steel a moment or two to enjoy summer.
